ASU Undergraduate Student Government to Decide on the Establishment of AZ PIRG on Campus

Tonight, at 8:30 PM at the Memorial Union Room 236 of the Arizona State University Tempe Campus the Undergraduate Finance Committee of the ASU Undergraduate Senators of the Tempe Campus will be meeting to decide on establishing an Arizona PIRG chapter at Arizona State University, Tempe campus. The PIRG organization has worked on numerous national and local campaigns to protect the environment, protect consumers against fraud, protect financial aid opportunities and advocate for affordable, accessible higher education, as well as increasing democratic participation in elections by registering people to vote.

From Airzona PIRG's Mission Statement:

"The goal of Arizona PIRG’s program is to engage students, teach civic skills and help students fulfill the university’s mission of learning, service, social responsibility and civic duties by documenting problems, proposing solutions and working to implement those solutions with professional staff. By applying the knowledge and expertise of professional staff, students and faculty at the university, we are able to solve real-world problems. Through direct service, education and policy work Arizona PIRG serves the greater community and fulfills the mission of the Arizona State University by extending students’ education beyond the classroom and teach effective citizenship."

Attached is the proposal that will be put forth tonight to the USG funding committee. In it is outlined some of the major contributions made by Arizona PIRG as well as their proposal for establishing a chapter at ASU Tempe campus.

Please come and show your support for the establishment of the chapter at ASU. They have made major grassroots organizing contributions to USG efforts and for issues of concern to the ASU community and beyond.
